Behringer XENYX 1202 12-Input Mixer – Product Overview

When I first started out with Audio Engineering Behringer was a bit of a ‘dirty word’ due to it’s low budget label. It’s strange how things have turned around in such a short space of time…

The Behringer XENYX 1202 12-Input Mixer is a premium ultra low noise, high headroom analog mixer that is VERY fairly priced.

It makes use of state-of-the-art Xenyx mic preamps that are the same standard as traditional boutique preamps.

It has more of a traditional feel to it’s layout using Potmeters for EQ, Volume, Pan, Aux and Gain. It’s construction is also very traditional making it a very rugged and durable piece of equipment.

The Good And The Bad

The Pros:

  • High-quality components
  • Stereo mix master outputs as well as separate control room, phones and stereo CD/tape outputs
  • Phantom Powered XENYX Mic Preamps
  • Ultra-compact model
  • Crystal-clear performance
  • 3-Year Warranty program
  • The 3-band British EQ ensures a really warm and traditional sound

The Cons:

  • No on-board FX included
  • Only one master fader ( all other channels are controlled with Potmeters )
  • No on/off switch

Who is The Behringer XENYX 1202 12-Input Mixer For?

Whether you are a beginner or a professional the Behringer XENYX 1202 is for you. It is perfect for mixing down various video takes and studio work – it’s also effective for live band situations.

It is a simple to use ‘no frills’ audio mixer without any complicated functions – perfect for newbies! It’s price and quality makes it an obvious choice for those starting out in the world of audio engineering.

Our Final Opinion on The Behringer XENYX 1202 12-Input Mixer

Whilst the mixing board does not look impressive when compared to digital desks it still works flawlessly. The four mic inputs and preamps provide the user with many different recording options.

For its price, it is a very powerful piece of equipment and it’s rugged design makes it perfect for field work/live gigs.

The on/off switch is a bit of a mystery ( why did Behringer decide not to include one? ) but can be overcome by purchasing a cheap single-outlet switch.

If you are relatively new to audio engineering then this is an excellent choice of equipment to get started and learn with.
